Ashley’s Birthday Bank is a Dorset Charity, based in Christchurch, set up at the end of 2014 and registered as a charity in April 2015. It provides a vital service for many children and families in the Poole, Bournemouth & Christchurch area.
The charity provides two types of services:
- Firstly, it provides underprivileged children (up to the age of 16) with a birthday and Christmas present to ensure they do not go without on these special occasions.
- Secondly, it provides a crisis service for families who have run away from domestic violence, been subject to neglect or abuse, or find themselves going through a financially difficult time. The crisis service provides food shopping, baby equipment, nappies, baby milk, toys, furniture, clothes/toiletries etc to these families to help them through this time.
The charity also works closely with the local refuges, the human trafficking unit, schools etc. Unfortunately, the need in this area is massive and daily requests are received for support - whether that is a referral from a refuge or a school, or through a Social Worker, Police Liaison Officer etc.
To provide these services the charity relies solely on donations. All staff work on a voluntary basis, so any money received goes straight into providing the support that is required.
