Welcome to the Corfe Mullen Carnival website which we hope will give you all the information you require to maximise your enjoyment of the 2019 Carnival events.
Corfe Mullen is a Dorset hilltop village located close to the A31, 2 miles South of Wimborne and 3 miles North of Poole.
The principal objective of the Carnival is to provide the local community with the opportunity to participate in and enjoy a week of events held within the village.
The attractions are carefully selected to ensure that the Carnival provides something for all ages at an affordable price, making the event a great venue for all of the family.
Carnival 2018 bloomed in the sunshine
Carnival 2018 was blessed with fine weather and for the first time, volunteers attempted to deliver a copy of the Carnival Programme to every household in the village in advance of Carnival Day. These factors contributed to increased Street Collections and increased Gate Receipts at the Recreation Ground. These, in turn, meant that this year we were able to donate more than £8,000 to our supported causes - some 20% more than in 2017. Sponsorship by local businesses has also increased and continues to be an important part of the formula.
At the Carnival AGM in early October 2018, it was agreed that the Accounting Year End for the Carnival should be brought forward to the end of August, so that the next AGM can be held in early September 2019, which will allow the business of the following year's Carnival to start sooner.
Carnival 2019 set to do even better
Just because it is winter, doesn't mean nothing's going on... we are already busy booking activities and stalls for Carnival Day, working out how to make events run smoothly at the Rec. and in the Procession, and much more as well!
For the first time, in direct response to requests, we are holding a Christmas Quiz in December 2018 as fore-runner to the Carnival events in the summer of 2019. If this trial run is successful, it could become a regular feature of the Carnival Calendar.
Following last year's successful experience, we plan to again deliver a copy of the Carnival Programme to every household in the village.
The local Charities and Community Organisations selected to receive funding from Corfe Mullen Carnival 2019 can be seen here.
Looking ahead, your nominations for organisations to be considered to receive our support in 2020 are welcome: applications should be received by 30th September 2019. The only mandatory requirement is that the services provided by the organisation should have the potential to benefit residents of Corfe Mullen.
I do hope that you will enjoy browsing our website and most importantly that you will join us on the 8th June 2019 to take part in and enjoy the various events detailed on the following pages.
